Description

So, I promised you guys when I uploaded the WIP (elby-manga-addicted.deviantart…) that I'd explain what this thing is all about later.
This is the finished version, and I cannot tell you how glad I am it's finished! :p
I seriously messed up a few times, miscalculated how many frames I still had to draw and ruined my schedule, and finding the right music was really difficult!
Luckily, the wonderful :iconeva1777: was able to help me with that! :D (thanks a million, by the way! :happybounce:)
Oh, and, I had to make the title and stuff in Dutch, because it's for school :p

As for the explanation I promised, it's probably going to be a bit vague for all of you, since this is the only part of the project you've seen so far (but all in due time! Once I've properly gotten my portfolio site up and running, you'll be able to see every bit of it there! ;) ). Now, this project started with each of the students picking three words that would serve as a red thread throughout the project. I chose the words 'reflection', 'alter ego' and 'bridge to another world' (yeah that counts as 1 word :p ).
In this animation the words alter ego and bridge are most present. As I did in the other parts of the project, I've worked with images as symbols for the deeper meaning, this is often something like "she wants to be her alter ego, instead of her real self, but to be one, she must break the other", and that was often interpreted as suicide, in which the subject would be able to become its alter ego in the afterlife.
In 'Remissio' however, I focused more on the aspect of new life and rebirth, than on death. The baby is born and grows into a woman, she is seen drawing butterflies, secretly desiring to fly like they do. But her obsession is dangerous, like fire, it's beautiful and fascinating, but if you get too close, too uncareful, you'll get burned. Her fascination only grows however, and she marvels in her dreams and her fantasy, until it strikes back and she falls down. The dark time in which she thought would mean the end, is her time in the cocoon, she's developing. It's hard climbing back up but eventually she does and realizes that in learning from her mistake, she grew and became the butterfly she'd always wanted to be. The  stick with which she draws represents life, it comes up to her and is impossible to ignore, it's brought her both pain and happiness, and inevitably, the end to who she is (which then goes back to the symbolism about death and afterlife).
So you see there are a lot of ways to view this animation, as a story, a life lesson, a random pretty thing, it's really a lot of things at the same time.

If any of you find another hidden meaning, please do tell me! it'd be very interesting to see what you interpret it as :)

The various software I used are Paint Tool Sai, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Audacity and Adobe Flash CS6.
I've long lost track of the amount of time I spent on this thing, but lets just say, a HUGE amount of time! ;)

Hope you like it!
